Primer failure?

Looking for some suggestions on the cause and correction of the gas leak past the one primer, it only happened on one cartridge out of 10 shot of this load. The load was worked up and past without any major pressure signs. The recipe is new Nosler brass, primer is win LR, powder H4350@ 56.9gr, 165sst@3.23coal, crimped with lee crimp die. Rifle is a Browning stainless stalker 30-06. The other shells that where shot look good, any info would be good as it removed a small piece from the bolt face when this happened. This shot was number 5 of 10 that day. The primers aren't loose on the other fired rounds. Thanks for your time.

Is this a hole in the case head that we see beside the primer? if so, the case may have been defective.
 
Yes it is the hole at the edge of the primer, you guys say defective case, I thought I would have seen a problem at inspection but I didn't see anything wrong with the brass. Is there something in particular I should be looking for? Thanks
 
Your load is not a heavy load, whatsoever, and all the primers, including the bad one, indicate light load.
 
Is there actually a hole in the primer? Does the hole in the case go all the way through the web? Punch it out and let us know.
 
I'd decap the bad case and inspect it from the inside. Looks like a case failure. As H4831 said, that is a light load, so excessive pressure isn't a factor here.
 
I had the exact same thing happen to me with a light (near minimum) load of Varget in .303 British. I attributed it at the time to the Winchester primers (same colour as the ones you are using) which i was trying for the first time. Switched back to CCI primers & it hasn't happened again since. 1 failure is hardly a scientific data sample but there ya go!
 
I have had the same thing in a 7mm rem mag. the win primers where the only
unknowing changed back to cci the problem when't away.

This is a failure of the primer cup. The cup had a very thin spot in the corner of it.
The hot gases exiting through the hole blown in the primer cup act just like a mini
cutting torch, and cut the brass away in the primer pocket and as OP mentioned,
will cut a small kerf in the boltface.
I have seen this 4 times over 50+ years, and all with different primers.
It is highly unlikely to occur again.

I had five or six do this in 50 rounds all the same batch of win primers.
And not one in the 50 after going back to cci.
 
If a primer fails the escaping gas can erode the metal in the case primer pocket. Take the primer out and look for a corresponding hole or split in the primer to know for sure if the fault originated with the primer.
