Primer not igniting

I was out last Friday to try a new (to me) 223, I had loaded up a bunch of rounds and was ready to have some fun. Took a few rounds to get the on paper and then I was ready to shoot some groups. Anyway I had 3 rounds fail to fire (out of 30)......squeeze the trigger and click........but no bang. WTF....I've never had a problem with this batch of primers before (CCI 450) when using them in my 6mm BR.
How often do you get bad primers?
Should I be concerned about the firing pin not hitting hard enough?
I did take the round apart to make sure that they did have powder in them.

I did have a similar problem when I first started reloading. My RCBS handprimer was not seating the primer deep enough. Something else to check on, maybe?

Did you have the primers anywhere near oil? That would certainly do it.

Had this problem with a Savage .223 I had. Only way to get 100% of the rounds to go off was to switch to Winchester SR primers.

Does it happen to be a Savage rifle?

compare a fired primer to one that didnt fire... is the dent about the same ?

did you re and re the cartridge to see if it would pop the second or 3rd time around ?

Vigin Lapua brass.
Primers not near oil - from cabinet straight into the brass.
I am using an RCBS primer - will check to make sure they're deep enough.
It's not a Savage - it's a Kimber
I did rechamber them and try a second time.
Will post photo's of the dent in the primer - between the ones that didn't fire and the ones that did fire, they appear to be the same to me.
I will try some different primers.

Check that primer. I have seen the odd one over the years that was missing the anvil.
They do not work that well.

I had a bad batch of Wolf primers that misfired 50% of the time in all my rifles, so it is possible to get a bad bunch. ( I soaked them in oil to deactivate before disposing of them.)

Switch to Federal and your problem will go away. A softer cup and more sensitive compound wil take care of you.
For the CCI fanboys, I have many thousands of CCI primers that I'll trade 2 for 1 for Federal or Winchester. That offer has been unclaimed for years. Its like nobody wants them.

I shoot cci primers in all my target guns and so far have never had a bad one.

Dogleg I would take you up on your offer if the shipping costs wouldn't be so high for dangerous goods.

I love the CCI 450 in the SKS rifles, prevents slam fires as they are harder. I have had a few bad ones over the years in all brands...
