any thoughts on a shotshell reloaded with JUST primer, then filled with airsoft bb's?

would the primer be enough to open the crimping and toss the airsoft bb's out?
would it be enough to burn/melt the bb's?

There was a company a few decades ago that produced a similar product. I don't recall them having shotgun rounds, but they did make reloadable handgun rounds. I still have a souvenir key ring 38 special round they made. It consisted of a plastic and copper shell caseing, a copper plated "snap-in" bullet, and it was powered by a primer only (no powder). I think is was marketed for indoor practice/plinking. This was before the days of airsoft. If you are interested I will try and find it and post a picture.

Please tell me this isn't so you can use your 12 gauge on your friends.

it is ABSOLUTELY NOT so i can use my 12g on my friends.

i stopped having friends when i started using my 12g on them haha (joke).

its a combination of curiosity and cheapness.

Speer makes plastic training ammo for pistols. The ones for 357 are a plastic case that you put a large pistol primer in and a special plastic bullet. The ones for 45 acp use a regular brass case that you drill the flash hole out and put the special plastic bullet in.

I have tried airsoft BB's in shotshells for fun at the range. I just wanted to see if it was possible.
With just a primer the BB's would roll out the barrel. There was enough force to just open the crimp and push the wad into the throat.
I tried it with light charges of Reddot (fastest powder I had) and it wouldn't ignite properly about 1/5 of the time. Even 5-10gr of it.
When it did ignite, the BB's would land between 20 and 40 yards down range.
It is fairly quite. It makes a loud pop sound, don't need ear protection.

I saw this done on Youtube and the guy used a highspeed camera. The BB's where going between 100 and 700fps if memory serves.

It won't work, a primer alone can't even get a wad through the barrel with the shell cut flush and no crimp or bend. I've tried primer and wad only in long barrels and short (12") it never worked for me.
You would have to make a paper or smaller wad to send them flying. With just a primer.

I would try with some fast burning powder like tightgroup and some airport mixed with a bit of shot for weight.

beg to differ I had a squib load with a 1 ounce slug, it pushed the slug and wad out the barrel, the slug went about 7-10' and rolled about another 15' to the target stand.

There's a guy called Taofeldermouse (not sure if I spelled that right) on YouTube that has shot just about anything you can fit in a shotgun out of one. Pretty sure he tried airsoft BBs too. I don't think they worked to well though. I recall the pattern was pretty erratic.

I'll post the video if I can find it.
