Primer Prices = WTF???

I can't speak of other companies, but I know that Lawry's has gotten several shipments of primers from the manufacturer's in the past few months and their prices have not gone up. Somewhere along the line the price is getting marked up quite a bit, whether it's the LGS doing it or the place the LGS's supplier, I don't know.

Not in the gun industry , but as a small player in the industry I am in I do not get the same pricing based on volume, some of my competitors get.
So my prices are higher, but I usually have it in stock. Does that make me a gouger.
 
hummasons is great, thats where ive been getting my stuff from lately, even better as ill get orders from ppl and we all split the gas, we can all get what we need affordably and the gas is split 5 or more ways
 
And so we have another case of someone who apparently hasn't done much research before complaining on the interwebs. I don't know what the OP has been doing recently but I thought he was smart enough to know all the local big suppliers in the area. I know it sucks losing Emmett but I am pretty sure you were aware of Lawry's and Hummason's. When you limit yourself to the small guys like Erie Tracker, Lanz, Simmons, FW... what do you expect? The worst of it yet is that Lawry's and Hummason's post their prices online so it's not hard to figure out what the stuff is really selling for. And really, $10 is chump change in the big picture. Skip your Starbucks for a couple of days and there's your $10.
 
You know, when you think about it, even when primers are way over priced........when you factor in you are reloading 1000 rounds.......is the $10-20 dollars really breaking the bank?

I know I'm guilty of scoffing at primer prices but it's mostly out of 'principal' than anything. I wish $20 was the worst I ever overpaid on something gun related lol

Oh, don't get me wrong, this makes no difference in the 1000 round pricing when considering reloading.

As you say it is really the principle.

it's not about $10, its about a 33 percent price difference.
 
I bought a gun for $500.00 how much did you buy a gun for?

This is just as stupid a statement as the primer pricing I've been reading about for the last 3 pages.

Are these pistol or rifle primers?
Standard or magnum?
Benchrest?
Brand?

To give you an example since January I have bought primers for $26.00
$30.00, $38.00, and $52.00

Which primers did I buy for those prices and did I get ripped off?

The point I'm trying to make is that there are volume discounts which the retailer may or may not pass on to the end user.
During the panic some retailers were getting primers from different sources to try to maintain some stock to serve their clientele. They had to pay more for this low volume stock and they are being called theives and gougers.
For the record there is no such thing as gouging when we are talking about reloading supplies since we are not talking about essential goods and services.

The last time I saw Emmett was last year for Goex. He asked me how much others were charging. I really didn't want to enlighten him to the gouging by others but I told him that Shooters Choice was nailing folks for, I believe, $29 or $32 per can. He just smiled and gave a little chuckle and said 'pricks'. Then he took my order and I paid him.....$19 a can! God love him!!
 
You should count yourselves lucky actually, we've been paying $50 / 1000 for over 3 years up here WHEN we can get any locally. This is for CCI 200, 250, 400, 450 and all the pistol as well.

Not just up your way. Most of the local shops here in the BC interior have been charging $50,00/1000 for large rifle primers for the last 3 years. One shop was charging over $60.00/1000 last year for standard WLR primers. There is a reason I hit the Kamloops gun-show every couple of years to stock up on primers.

....uh....maybe it's different in other loacales, but aside from 'Benchrest' or "shotgun', whenever I have bought primers they have always been the same price per 1000 whether they be standard, magnum, pistol, rifle, winchester, cci, etc. Meaning that whichever store I bought them from pretty much priced them all the same.....
