Does anyone here know why only CCI suggest to use magnum primers (CCI250) with Win 760 powder. What about using like every other company standard primer.
I am out of CCI250,but I have fed 215,and standard CCI200.

I have a lot of Win 760 and I would like to use it in my 30-06 and my 308 win.

This is a fairly standard recommendation for ball powders, which are a little harder to light than extruded. Winchester standard primers are as hot as most brands' magnums since they are big on loading ball in their factory loads. CCi standard primers are very mild.

"...would like to use it in my..." You're in luck. There's lots of data on Hodgdon's site for both cartridges. There's no mention of W760 needing magnum primers. You don't need magnum primers unless your manual says to use them. Mind you, they do work better in cold weather.

I have used standerd primers when the manual says to use the magnum and never had a problem. But then again some manuals will not mention the need for magnum primers with a ball type powder . I use BLc-2 powder in the 223 and have never had a problem with the non magnum ones

I believe it was in Speer 13 that I read that for one powder that they had always been using magnum primers for that they had better accuracy with the same velocity when they tried standard primers. Now this was for the one cartridge that I was reading and not all. I would start with what the manual says. Some manuals will list the use of magnum primers while others might not for the same bullet and powder. Chances are the load using magnum primers will have a slightly less maximum powder charge.

Be safe.

Thanks for the info guys,
As I said only CCI (I have 3 Speer manuel),suggest using CCI250 (magnum primer). All others like Nosler,Hornady,Barnes,Lyman suggest using standard primers.
I guest this is because the CCI200 is a very mild primer and will impact the consistency of the load.
