I'm going to be loading for a 7mm mag but I'm short mag primers. I have a good supply of winchester large rifle primers.

can I use these primers instead and if so what would the effect on accuracy be ?

Thanks for your help

The large rifle primers will work just fine. I had to switch from the mag primers. You will most likely need to work up your new load . As when I did this it affected my accuracy .

Straight Shooting

I use CCI LRPs in my 243 and Winchester LRPs in my 308, purely because it makes it easy for me to check my round count in each rifle by how many primers I have used.
They both seem to make rounds go bang, equally well.

The Winchester standard primer will work just fine except for the slowest of powders on the coldest of days.

The Winchester primer is a bit hotter than the standard CCI because Winchester used to load their ammo with their ball powders, which are more difficult to ignite than extruded powders. In 308, I found Winchester primers added about 25 fps over CCI or Federal. Could not see any accuracy differences.

Magnum primers ignite and burn a little hotter ensuring a cleaner burn of the larger amounts of powders, but large rifle will work as already stated.
