I'm in the process of fire forming some .257 brass to .257AI. I loaded up some new Winchester Super Dooper Pooper brass with 46.0gr of H335 (I have several pounds), Winchester magnum primers and 75gr V-Max bullets. The OAL is 2.795-2.803 (at the longest). The load is the max listed in the Hodgdon magazine that I have. I had taken my Chrony out, but for some reason it is not working so I do not know the fps on these loads. Do primers ever flatten out with weak loads?

The barrel was installed with a slight crush fit with the new brass if I remember right.
 
What is the problem?
Primers look like a medium load to me.
However, flattening of primers is not an accurate indication of pressure.
 
Sounds good to me. Onward and upward. Should I move up in .5gr increments or .3gr? I'm guessing it may go 10% more if what I've read is accurate.

In my opinion going up .3 grain at a time is a wasted effort. A chronograph probably couldn't find the ones that were only up .3 grain.
I seldon go up less than one grain at a time, with a good bolt action rifle.
The bolt getting a bit sticky to open is a sure sign you have just gone over a suitable load.
 
Thanks. Now for a suitable powder. I have H335, Benchmark, XBR and H4350 sitting here. I bought the H4350 for this rifle so that will be the initial test. XBR next.
 
Thanks. I may have to source out that powder. Shillen says 100gr max bullet with this barrel.
