Is there a standard primer used in the lee reloading manual? It lists the size of primer only not brand or style. For 2506 for example it says large rifle primer. Can any large rifle primer be used safely or will some cause more pressure?

For some reason primers are hard to come by from time to time. When this ahppens you are delighted to find any kind of primer that will fit.

If you are making general purpose ammo that will go BANG, this is not a big deal. But if you are developing an accurate load that is important to you, it would eb good to always use the same primer.

For this reason I use the same brand of primer all the time (Winchester - but I could have been just as happy with Federal or CCI) and when primers are in stock I buy several cases (5,000 to the case).

If you are not loading a lot of ammo, buy at least several bricks of primers (1,000 to the brick) so that all your loading will be the same brand and even the same lot #.
