Just received a large shipment of primers and as a result of our wholesale cost dropping, our retail price did as well. All our primers (excpet for benchrest) are now $42/1000 down from $47/1000. This includes previous stock as well. Most makes and sizes in stock. Phil.

To all Gunnuters

Hate to say I told you so but I am on record on Gunnutz as having stated that prices for primers would go down, because these insane spikes had less to do copper prices and inflation, and more to do with a hoarding panic brought on by fear of Obama.

People fail to learn from history, it's not like this hasn't happened before. The biggest myth in the world is that prices only go up. That is true for most things ,but not all things.

The consumption of our sport, ammo and ammo components, are linked to commodity prices. And yes commodity prices go up and down, not only because of supply and demand, but production and inventories.

I had read how many reloaders in the US had recently been paying up to $80/1000 and here on Gunnutz, up to $60/1000. That is panic buying at its best.

I couldn't agree more...supply and demand, with the demand being sparked by panic buying and hoarding mainly in the US but a little here. My mark up % hasn't changed...just my cost went down. Phil.

Let me know when they get back to $25/1000 or $120/5k ;)

Great to hear Phil. I am surprised you mark down your old stock as well. Just another example of why you are the best in town. I was in Wild West many moons ago and purchased some hard to find ammo. I noticed a sticker under the current price. I peeled it off and guess what... They change the price on their old stock too, only they mark it up:rolleyes:.

We were fairly low on inventory but it was the right thing to do under the current circumstances. It is a cost averaging sort of thing. Phil.

$47/k...?

That's no bargain. As of a couple o' weeks ago I'm still paying $23/k for CCI small rifle and $30/k for Feds...

Thanks for lowering your price on the old stock & for pasing on the savings with the new stock. We will certainly remember you sir!

Now let me add, when prices were up, I purchaced a couple thou & kept right on having fun instead of crying over the difference in what the price used to be & the higher amount. Sure I will certainly buy more now as prices come down, but I'm not going to whine over a few bucks & not shoot!
We went through this before & it won't be the last time.....

$47 / 1000 is what it was at...now $42.00. If you are paying $23 /1000...that is way less then my cost. I would love to know who still has them for that price as I will buy them myself. Phil.

We picked up 45,000 last week for $32.80 per 1000, not too bad I thought considering we were paying more...If LeBaron ever gets anymore they were $27.95 a few months ago...

LeBaron had them a few months ago?

I missed it!!! Glad to hear prices are still that cheap (I think I bought my 10k of CCI small pistol late last summer) in Markham location. I proceeded to post it here to let others know.

If someone finds stock at Lebarons Markham, please post here or PM me.

Thanks! :)

I got em from lebaron awhile ago. 28 bucks/1000. 42 is still higher than I'm paying from my local whole in the wall shop. 37 is what I paid for large rifle yesterday. I got a guy selling pistol primers for 30/1000 but I'm not saying who!

Don't remember saying they would go back to $25. Only said that $60 / 1000 wouldn't hold, and I am being proven right.

BTW, paid $25.19 / 1000 today, is that close to your benchmark ?

The answer is staring you in the face on this thread. There are multiple mentions here of $29.97 / 1000 for CCI at a particular retailer. I get a further 10% discount off hence the $ 25.19 I paid yesterday.

The downside is that this retailer is perpetually and hopelessly out of stock on lots of items, so there unfortunately is an element of timing and luck involved.

When I absolutely want my primers, my LGS has them at $36.99 for CCI and $39.99 for Federals.

As far as I am concerned, primer pricing remains an absolute mystery to me. I can't figure it out, but I make it my mission to get the best average prices imaginable. But those who panic buy at $50, $60, or even $80/1000 are plain ignorant and play into the hands of the manufacturers that are laughing all the way to the bank. Stay sharp people.

Good luck with your purchases
