Right, got a savage axis in 30-06 as a gift. (I know, even as a gift I considered not taking it). It's acurate enough, when it fires. Every 1 or so out of 20, primer is dented the same as a fired round, but it doesn't go off. I assumed bad primers and didn't concern myself. Took it out the other day in -20, 168 grain silvertip, every other round failed.

So, what do? Any thoughts before I take it down to the local smithy?

have you cleaned the new gun inside yet, factory loads them full of oil and doesnt work well very fast when dirty, btw if you dont want that axis ill take it, they are known to be very good accurate guns. solid actions you can build a good target gun from

Take the bolt right apart and give it a good clean make sure when putting it back together the two springs are flush one on top of the other. Also check the springs at the ends for any burrs. Lots of vids on YouTube on how to disassemble. Just some suggestions.

It's interesting, I hear so many varying opinions on the gun. A lot of seriously negative comments, and a handful of people claiming its MOA out of the box. So far I don't Hate the gun, even though the bolt is rough and the magazine is annoying, seems fairly acurate.
