Primers

Straight from CCI small pistol mag primers are the same as small rifle.

Good to know. Thank you sir. I have a #### load of sr and no smp. GTG now. .357 needs warming up.

Lotta guys say this but never post the message they themselves received straight from CCI. I decided to ask myself and CCI says no.

These two primers are built to different specifications from one another. Primer substitutions are not recommended as this can cause an unsafe situation. Only use the primers for which your load data is calling for.

Thanks,

That would be a standard reply these days in the US where litigation is around every corner.

He will really look smart if he tries to load pistol primers to 60,000psi, and they leak or rupture, because they are not designed for that much pressure.

I've never loaded them that hot, so I have no experience. My loads are in the 50k psi range and never had an issue.

Have you tried the Magnum Pistol Primer loads at 60K psi??? Personal experience would be nice.

I load cci sm rifle in 9mm and 10mm with no issues whatsoever but I’m running factory springs in any pistol I load them in, over the chrono the velocity is the same or a c/hair less from sm rifle primers.

Here’s a good video from a manufacturer in the states that tests fps as well as pressures between sm pistol, small pistol mag and small rifle.

I have plenty of rifle primers, so why would I use pistol primers? I did have 6-1/2 primers leak in 17 hornet though, and the 6-1/2 is a rifle primer, designed for small capacity, cartridges, and they work well in 22 hornet.

There’s some clown on the ee who wants to trade 200 large rifle primers for 1500 large pistol or mag primers
WTF is wrong with people? Bloody crooks!

Assuming you're referring to me, please learn to read before you make stupid posts. I'm looking to trade 500 LRP of various manufacturers for 1500 LPP. Not overly ridiculous i think, but nobody has corrrected me otherwise other than you, and you got your amounts wrong.

I’ve been looking for weeks and can’t find any anywhere. Except for those scamming website primershop Canada. Asking payment with EMT or bitcoin! Stay away and report them

An ad for LR primers $500 per 1,000 went up today and came down today. If someone actually paid $500 for a brick of primers the end times must be nigh. How can people do load development at 50 cents a primer?

Because even the manufacturer states they they aren't the same. They make them, they should know. I don't have to pee on an electric fence to know that it isn't a good idea.

Well others have stated differently and I've personally used them over thousands of rounds in different cartridges, from 7x57 with hot loads to 30-30Win, 308Winchester, etc. Never had any adverse issues.

For most manufacturers, litigation is their nemesis and they will advise accordingly.

They are either so flush with cash that they don't care, or they're desperate. Someone just getting into reloading may think it's worth it to get started.
Most of us continue to shoot and reload although costs have gone up. Within reason, it's the cost of doing business for us. I'm still eating butter and eggs, which have increased nearly 100% in the past 2 to 3 years. And it's going to get worse.

I've found primers in small quantities here and there, as a rifle shooter I don't go through the volume that an IPSC shooter would, as an example.

If one was trying to gouge an exorbitant price for an item, first you need to convince buyers that your price is acceptable. You can do that by posting an ad with a ridiculous high price, then a few hours later you mark it "Sold!", even though it hasn't sold. A few days later you do the same thing, after a few cycles those that are "on the fence" start to think maybe it's not as bad a price as they thought, because "someone is paying it, after all".
I'm willing to bet there's some of that going on every day on the EE, unfortunately.

The end times might be closer to nigh than we think. Crazy days.

Once I run out of my primers I will buy a couple boxes of factory ammo that shoot acceptable at 200-300 yards
To me reloading isn't a live and die situation (I can do without) so people can ask a stupid amount for primers I will not be buying.

The folks in power are realizing that restricting the ammo supply is easier than controlling the gun supply
- They'll son restrict the number of rounds of ammo you are allowed to keep on hand, and most hunters will go along with it, since they only use a box of two a year at most...

If the primers really are the same, why would they bother making both rifle and pistol primers? Even the Sierra techs warn about not interchanging them.
