My lyman manual is calling for remington primers for my 223 loads and winchester for my 40 ACP but i can't find anyone who sells these in bulk. can someone point me in the right direction

If you're firing .223 from an AR, I suggest going with CCI primers on account their cups are harder and resist slam fires (doesn't usually happen, but....). If you send the bolt home on an AR loaded with Win/Rem/Fed primers (especially Fed), and then extract the round (without having fired it), you will notice a dimple on the primer where the firing pin contacted it. It is this that can/might cause a slam fire. So for safety, any autoloading rifle I load for (my ARs and my M305) use CCI primers.

If your loads aren't for an AR, any primer will do.

One other thing to keep in mind is the difference between pistol primers and magnum pistol primers.
Unless the load recipe specifies magnum primers, stick with the regular primers. If you're using maximum loads, you should re-develop your load when you change components.

I avoid Remington primers. CCI is my default go to primer unless I can't get them in the type I need.

I use winchester for pistol right now only cause I can tell the diff in packaging between my pistol and rifle primer, removes a margin of error.

I've been using Fed Match in my bolt 223 target rifle.
