Priming problem

I was wondering if anyone has ever had this problem before.
I was priming some Hornady brass in 223 and was having problems seating primers.
I was using my lee xt primer and thought that was the problem until I switched to my lee press which I still had primers going in side ways.
Any idea what caused this?
 
yea, nothing to do with the primers, or anything else- it's the press, esp the loadmaster or the 1000- anything with that fool primer trough set- up -you have to have the trough FULL at all times- let it get down to 10 or so and you get the primers not centering on the pin and this causes them to flip- you also need to make sure the 'PATH' IS absolutely clean AND THE PIN SURFACE is absolutely clean- it's FOREIGN MATERIAL in that path that causes the primers to flip- even experienced reloaders do the priming OFF THE PRESS
the 1000 is especially bad for this as it dumps powder at the same station as it primes- compressed air is your friend
 
I was using cci small primers with my lee xt primer and I tried it with my lee anniversary single press and with press it actually was pushing primer in sideways.
 
ok, that's in your feed ,and not in the press- i'd get ahold of the guys at lee precision and see what they have to say-your actual primer cap is the cup that pushes the primer into the primer hole in the case- the fact that it's going in sideways means the feed isn't working properly- ie it should be flat when it enters the priming cup- you're probably going to have to take the feed to pieces and see where it's hanging up
 
Make sure you are not trying to prime crimped 223 cases. Very common. Remove the crimp first, then priming will go smooth. Never heard of it with Hornady, but u never know. If not the problem go with aforementioned.
