I've had 3 Lee priming tools over the years as well as an RCBS, the Lee's all cracked in the same place and the RCBS wore out.

I really didn't like the RCBS so went with a Lee ergo model that seems to have better metal in it especially around the shell holder. It seats small rifle primers with no issues but won't seat a LR primer at all, gets hung up in the 'gate'.

So, in addition to the new Lee I bought a Lyman tool, looks good and well thought out. But the primers do not seat fully, they are proud of the case head several thousands of inches.

Has any one else experienced this ?

This is not rocket surgery but did I get two bad ones in a row?

I'm kind of curious about how you wore out the RCBS primer. What wore out on it?

the arm that pushes the rod eventually flat spotted, wouldn't seat primer all the way, lubed occasionally but many 1000's of primers seated. Thinking the aluminum was too soft as well.

Did you not contact RCBS? I'm pretty sure they would warranty that.

I have the lyman. My first one did exactly the same thing as yours (fine with SP, doesn't seat LP correctly). Returned it to cabelas then got a new one which works flawlessly.

Called Lyman today over the primer tool not working correctly.

Nice lady said they would send another one that does work, just pitch the other one out.

Good customer service, no hassles at all , must of got a bad batch from their supplier.

I'm interested in how the replacement Lyman works.

I purchased the bench model lee, and the plastic feeding system didn't make a hundred rounds. (LR) Went back to the old Lee auto prime for now. Was considering the ergo prime but after your post and my experience I am reluctant.

Will report when received.

My very old Auto primer wore out so have both the new XR and Ergo. They both work but definitely needed a break in. That primer separation feeder is far from perfect but it does work. I lubed some of the moving parts in the Ergo so the tray could slide in the metal housing better. With some use, that helped alot.

The XR sees to need less break in time and is working very nicely with SR primers. I am using the ergo with LR primers

For simple, ease of use, the orig auto prime was tops... these new safety features can lead to jams but I hope things will settle down with more use.

Sounds like the Lyman operates similarly to the orig auto prime... let us know how the new one works out.

I tried using motor mica dry lubricant and it didn't make a difference. What did you use? (for clarity we are talking about the clear plastic "shuffling" system for lack a better descriptor, used in the new auto prime from lee correct?.)

I use the little primer arm on my RCBS rock chucker 2. Works great. I have the hand primer that came with the RCBS kit, but the primer arm on the press works better and faster for me.

Yeah, this the clearish plastic bits that make up the priming tray IN the metal handle. Absolutely, no lube/grease has been put anywhere near the primers. Some lube on the back side of the sliding tray really got it moving freely.... move the handle and you will see this part move back and forth.

I use a clear synthetic lube which I use in my rifles... Permatex Synthetic Grease. I got it from Cdn Tire... grey black toothpaste looking tube.

Works great.
