Ordered this call from Al Flahertys last week to do some crow and coyote hunting. I was not having much luck with the mouth calls for crows even when using decoys. - Apparently, it is something I just plain suck at!
So, today I received the Turbo Dogg in the mail and rushed home to check it out. The transmitter holds 3x AA batteries and the speaker unit another 8. I turned it on and went through the menu. The colour display is easy to see and the menu is logical. There are some (36) very cool pre-loaded sounds and there is a huge library online for paid download as well.
I tried a few of the calls in the house and discovered that if you turn up the volume, it will nearly shatter your eardrums! This thing packs a whallop.
I live on the atlantic shore, and at low tide there are lots of crows scavenging the shoreline. So, without further adiew, I placed the speaker unit on the back deck and tried the crow call at 50% volume. As quick as I could focus my spotting scope on the shore (about 450 yds.), I spotted 3 crows make a dead straight beeline for the house. I watched them come, thinking it must be a coincidence. Then I looked around and there were crows coming for several other directions. I remotely lowered the volume to about 30% and within 2 minutes, there were at least 30 crows over the house in a mad frenzy to get in on the action! I walked out in the front yard to watch the action and even my presence outside didn't deter them.
I then turned it off, so as not to get them too accustomed to the call.
Looks like this winter will be a ton of fun down the field shooting crows! The Turbo Dogg is my new best hunting tool!
