Hey guys,

So i bought a Vortex Spitfire AR 1x since i have a bit of astigmatism and i received the optic today and no matter how much i play with the reticle focus and placement on the rifle i can’t get the optic to stop me from seing double at everything i look at. Never had that issue with red dot or even the cheap LPVO i have on my .22. It is something you have to get used too? Otherwise ill gladly go with a little blurry red dot instead of seeing two target all the time...

Are you cross eye dominant and looking with your weak eye by chance?

Im looking with my dominant eye in the optic.

Are you focusing on the reticle or the target? Try focusing on the target instead of the dot.

When i focus on the target i have to blink a few time and really put my mind to it to get the target to be a single one. In fast aquisition its absolutely impossible to get a clear single target and thats kinda the whole point of a 1x optic

Yeah I think I had a similar problem when I first started using mine this year. It's less of an issue now, I think I am more accustomed to it. Definitely had an easier time going two eyes open at 1x with a Razor 1-6 than I do with the Spitfire. And on any targets beyond like 100m I think I squint my left eye to hide that image from my brain, as seeing two small targets is tough to deal with quickly.

Hmmm strange you dont have that issue with a red dot.

Try having the gun low-ready pointing at the ground on your shoulder. Focus on the target and practice bringing the rifle up 100's of times so that you get the dot right where you want it instantly every time.

I think that may help being focused on the target before looking through the reticle and help you get used to it.

Rifle scope focus on the reticle.

Red dots, holos, and prisms focus on the target always. Try to look past the optic and ignore it.

Did it a few time. I usually end up in between both target instead of one or the other. It might be a training issue but even if i end up focusing right as soon as i move its all over again. Moving target tracking and multiple target aquisition dont seems like the kind of stuff this optic can do right. I think ill switch over to a reddot never had any of these issue. A crisp dot is not worth all these downside

Longer range seems fine i can focus pretty easy on the target if i dont move too much. Seems like a fine benchrest optic but thats all

I'll also mention that tons of the highest level 3gun matches in the States have seen Limited division won with the Spitfire. So it can be extremely effective for some people. That's not to say it will be the best choice for everyone.

With training i have no doupt. But i just dont have enough astigmatism to make red dot sight really unbearable so im going to stick with them in the future. I kinda made a problen where there was none when i bought this optic lol

Maybe it's a defective unit.

Honestly i dont think so. I searched on the web and it seems to be a known “issue” and alot of people dont like this optic for this reason. Its really a training thing ive kept looking in it since yesterday aiming at random stuff in the house and it now feel a bit better than at first. Probably can be corrected with the right amount of time

Have you tried it outside?
I've experienced the double image with some optics in the past but the Spitfire 1x I've tired, looks nice and clear to my eyes.

I'd try another one if possible?

I too have astigmatism so switched to the Spitfire. I find there is some minor paralax, particularly at close range, but proper positioning of the optic and practice make it negligible.

Have you confirmed the astigmatism? I suffer from it as well, for me the effects are not constant and it’s been suggested that it’s not my only issue. I will see doubles of iron sights, red dots and prisms. Red dots are the worst as the poa and poi can range day to day. Some days I can hit the center of the target and other days I can’t even hit paper at 10 yards. I’ve given up on them all until I can get an apt with an ophthalmologist. LASIK already refused to do anything.
Anyway, I’ve switched to illuminated traditional scopes and have had better results.

First line here is my bet, I’ve owned them and red dots and 1-6x the prism is by far the worse in house... it’s not an optic you can mess around with while watching tv or even out the window.... if you haven’t, take her outside and see if it makes a difference.

If you can’t make it working doing that, bring a red dot with you to your eye doctor and they can hook you up with a better prescription. My astigmatism was so light when reading (and could fudge my way through the test) mine went undiagnosed until I brought in and asked about the starburst of my red dot but it cleared up in front of a 3x magnifier.

Best of luck.

I bought it online so not really possible to try another one. I will bring it with me to the range tomorrow maybe try it on the .22

Thing is also my local range is 3 wall and a roof so if it doesnt perform indoor im kinda screwed because i bought it for my AR so it wont be seeing outdoor use

My astigmatism is corrected in my glasses so its confirmed. If i can’t get it right i have an appointment next week at the eye doctor might bring the optic with me and see if there is anything that can be done. Thanks for the input guys
