So I went out and bought a Pistol from a guy in AB, over the inter-web. (Firearms Canada Web Site)

I sent a MO (he wouldn't accept an EMT)

5 days later he called the CFC to transfer the firearm

I then called to complete transfer

2 days later I recieved my ATT

Yesterday I recieved my Registation in the mail

All in all its been like 4 1/2 weeks since I have said "I'll take it"

He has still not shipped the Pistol as he has not recieved the transfer authorization from the CFC.

My questions are this:

Is it Legal to send/ship a firearm before you actually recieve this piece of paper?

Could you not call the CFC to see if the transfer is completed and ship it before you actually get a written document?

Do I have any Liability (ie: storage, impropper use etc....) while he still has the firearm?

Am I being unresonable....... paranoid, over this situation?

This is my first private sale over the net....... I'm starting to get a little antsy is all.

Usually I have the firearm a week or 2 before I get the actuall paper registration cert. from the CFC (when I buy from a dealer)

tks in advance for your info

I bought a gun from a guy that insisted on waiting till the paperwork came in the mail. I waited and waited finally I phoned the CFO and made sure they sent it out to him, and they offered to phone the seller. 4 days later I had the gun

Once the transfer has been completed the handgun is yours. If something happens to the pistol before it's shipped such as theft or loss it'd be a pain to sort out. If the seller is in doubt he can call the CFC himself. I've dealt with a few sellers myself that follow this procedure--it's always a frustrating and unnecessary delay. I've asked the CFO about it and they've confirmed that sellers don't need the paperwork before shipping as long as the transfer has been approved.
