Pro & Con to 12.5" Barrel

11.5", short enough for entry work, and long enough to run reliably in a DI gun.

I built a 12.5" gun, however other than offering the ability to use a M203 and suppressor (at the same time) - it gave nothing that the 11.5 did not, and I don't care to mount a M203 on a carbine anyway.

Ran a BCM 12.5 for a couple months overseas after theorizing about it being a sweet spot between bbl length and MV. It was too long for low vis, went back to a Mk18mod1. I wouldn't buy another 12.5. 10.5/11.5" by KAC/DD/Diemaco/LMT for shorties, 16" if you want to go any longer.

I have before, but the parts/build I have won't fit an 11.5" because of the 11" Rail. I do not like that look.

fair enough. i completely get it. half of what i do is about the look. just make sure you pair that up with practicality and quality too ;)

I had an 11.5" on mine and it was great, Loud but great....untill i had a minor barrel failure (loose extension) i ordered a DD 12.5 so we shall see....

I like my 10.5. Very handy, and accurate enough out to 200 yards.

The only thing I don't like it that it is beastly loud. It's not much of an outdoor range issue, in fact, I don't even notice it most of the time, but shoot under a covered shack or under covered bays and it can be distracting. It's much worse with any type of muzzle brake, which is why I went back to an A2.

I would not want to fire it indoors without doubling up on hearing protection. With no eye and ear protection shooting it indoors would mess you up.
