anyone care to speculate the probability that AR15s will be reclassified to non-restricted in our life time?
getting fairly bored of shooting it at the range...

You did it wrong, AR reclassification threads are typically done on Thursdays. Mondays are normally about shooting into space.

Yup!
Monday- Shooting into space, mag capacity
Tuesday- Bear defense, FRT numbers, EE and Site sponsor rants
Wednesday- Zombie, SHTF guns, all conspiracy theories
Thursday- AR re-classification, CCW, ISIS, and associated terrorists
Friday- AR vs. Tavor vs. XCR vs. ACR vs. VZ/CZ vs. SL-8
Saturday- What's the best/ first handgun/ rifle to buy
Sunday- Slamfire stocks. Slow day for threads.
Who's got time to shoot anymore??

It think it isn't gonna happen, the way I see it it would make a lot more sense to change the definition of restricted. What I mean is I don't care if I have to register it and jump a couple hoops to be able to buy a restricted, but once it's done let me use it like a NR.
the restriction should be on who can get one not on what one can do with it. Kind of like NFA status in the US; pay 200$ accept to have it registered and your background checked a little closer, than be on your merry way.

sh.... sounds suspiciously like advocating for the LGR....

but I do see your point- a bit more scrutiny, then you're able to use it with fewer restrictions.

were this the case, mine would be accompanying me to the cottage for bear defence- oh, wait, I should have posted tomorrow!

As long as the uppers can be changed out so easily to 7.5" barrels, it is never going to happen.
Better give your boring AR to me....I could always use another!

I could live with that. The only thing about the registry I was worried about was a change in leadership suddenly using those records to come take them all away but if we could get some type of assurance that could never happen I don't really care if they know I own an AR as long as I can use it freely. They already know I have 4 AR's and 5 pistols so what difference would it make as long as I could take them out varmint and predator hunting.

For bear defence?? $hit, I sure hope you have an AR in .50B!? A .223 would only serve to piss off most of the bear I have seen where I play! I'd say bring ur AR for plinking and keep ur 45-70 close! Good luck!

or maybe the upper could become the controlled portion of the firearm. and yes, that would require administrative changes...

but that's not to say it's impossible. certainly in the u.s. they're able to differentiate between SBR AR15s and their longer barreled siblings, so it might be do-able in Canada also....

yeah, yeah, I know... just a way of getting it by the 'significant other'. I realize the .308 or 12 gauge is the better choice. ;)

We should totally get this schedule stickied somewhere, lol!

As it stands today, if c-42 passes there will be a mechanism in place to prescribe a firearm as non-restricted. We currently do not have that ability. There is a mechanism in place to prescribe a firearm as prohibited or restricted. The AR is currently prescribed as a restricted firearm meaning barrel length and all that goes out the window. A 20" AR is still restricted.

So if C-42 passes the AR could be prescribed as non-restricted. I doubt the political will is there to do it with the conservatives. If the liberals or ndp win the election you are more likely to see the AR and a bunch of other rifles prescribed as prohibited.

0 chance if you don't get involve with NFA, CSSA or your local MP. we gain a little foothold with the appeal of the LGR, but we haven't gain any ground since and every shooting incidents in the news erodes our stance.

If you are getting fairly bored of shooting it at the range I would recommend you to go around and collect signatures for the AR15 and magazine petitions in between cease fires. ;)

i have been trying to track down the threads related to the petitions and what not - seems like we are a lot further away as a group than i anticipated.
thanks for all the replies, ill repost on "reclassification" thursday for those expecting to answer these threads that day
