By the way, legend has it that the list of restricted/prohibited firearms was based on govt folks x'ing things out in an issue of Gun Digest.
NFA said they had a copy of the marked up document, and would be scanning it and putting it online... then, also per the NFA as I recall, decided NOT to put online (yet) as part of some intricate strategy.
hopefully we'll get to see this document at some point.

and yes, for those americans who don't follow their laws, it can be expensive, in term of $$ spent and time served.

Any upper can be a short barreled upper. the barrels are easy to change.
Their system is pretty flawed as well

I doubt people have given up, it feels like we are talking to a wall and not getting anywhere. All because of a handful of people without proper understanding of firearms decided to class firearms based on activities around the world and stupid news broadcasts. Fact of the matter is people who break the law do not pay attention to firearm classification.

I did hear about the Gun Digest and found it amusing, didnt think it was true tho. Thanks for the link, so its just another mith then.
With the negative attitude of some of you I would say yes things won't change, thankfully not everyone is so easily deterred.
Not sure how it will come about, more likely AR's will still remain registered, but perhaps registered rifles will have the ability to be used away from ranges. This might be a more likely scenario then just an AR just going NR.
If we want and believe it can happen and follow that up with a little effort by informing our government etc. that the situation now makes very little sense and why it should be changed it is possible. Not doing anything, not making any changes and expecting things to change is insanity.
We must make an effort to change these archaic and outdated regulations/laws. Once the right people are informed and shown the common sense of it all with a united front of thousands of responsible firearms owners things will change.
We all need to understand that it will take time, but progress will come, but only if we all do something about. Discussing it here is not going to do it unfortunately, so support our shooting clubs and let our government know we went change by writing at least one letter a month. It will happen.
