Have a Falcon Menace 1.5-5 x30 IR purchased from a CGN sponsor mounted on a .308
http://www.falconoptics.com/1.5-5x30IR.php
Reticle is installed on the Second Focal Plane and the user guide states that "the zeroed point of impact should remain unchanged across the entire magnification range"
I zeroed the scope at 100m @ 5x power (max) but when I drop the magnification the POI rises a lot. At 100m going from 5x down to 3x raised it 1.5-2.0 MRAD (15-20 cm) and at the lowest 1.5x power it was almost off paper, raised at least 2.5-3.0 MRAD!
Got home and did some reading and first thing I realized was I don't know JACK about optics!
That said, after an hour of reading I now understand the differences and pros and cons of First Focal Plane reticles and Second Focal Plane reticles.
From what I understand, FFP will never shift POI but the reticle changes size as you change magnification. Most people go on to say that a quality Variable power scope with SFP reticle should not change the POI significantly.
This is a $250-$300 scope, which I realize is not exactly top of the line, but would anyone agree that there is something wrong with mine?
