problem disassembling vz 58

just bought a new vz 58, I was taking it apart to clean all the oil off and had a small problem. the striker won't decock except when I dry fire it. checked youtube, pulled bolt back pulled and held trigger, released bolt, release trigger and its still cocked. what's going on and how do I decock it?

Dry fire.

Make sure safety is off while decocking. If the safety is on while performing the decocking it won't work. This is how my cz858 works.

The safety is off. One other thing to note is the bolt kind of sticks when I release it with the trigger pulled. Could someone with a csa vz58 please tell me how their's works?

Dry fire.

Yep, thats what I have to do with my CSA VZ. My CZ858 is different and I can decock it without dry fireing.
One has a tabbed bolt and the other is not tabbed. My guess that's the difference.

I thought dry firing was just part of the process. It wont hurt the gun.

i just "dry" fire it with a snap cap in dont have to worry about damaging anyting that way

Ok, thanks for the responses, I'll probably be getting some snap caps anyway, I like mixing them in my mags.

As far as I know dry firing will not hurt the firearm. I have both a VZ 58 and CZ 858 and I dry fire both to disassemble.

Correct on that note. Just dry fire it, wont do any damage. It isnt a rimfire rifle. No need for snapcaps

Yeah the dryfire is necessary. AFAIK there is no other way to put the striker down and get the Dust cover off.

how do you guys disassemble without dry firing?

I tried it a few times and it just gets stuck? For mine i have to dry fire (untabbed cz858)

Ahhhhh yes there is, just have to know the weapon. Very simple method almost like a 10/22.

Why is everyone so worried about dry firing a centerfire rifle? It won't hurt it any.
