So, I ordered the short optic mount from Wolverine to put on my vz58 (that already has the side mount installed) that I also got from Wolverine.

It looked simple enough - open latch, slide optic mount on the side mount and then close the latch.

Several hours later and I'm still struggling with the mount. It lines up but won't slide on.

Has anyone got any experience putting these on? I tried Wolverine but they did not have much beyond a Czechpoint video.

Any insights or advice is greatly appreciated.

Correction: The mount was purchased from SFRC.

If its the proper CSA brand mount, mine had to be filed down before it would slide on the side rail. It was binding half way on and needed some work. Now, it slides on and off like butter but it was pretty frustrating at first.

Mine was sold by Wolverine with the mount already installed. pavmentsurfer, it sounds like I'm having the same experience as you. Did you file the side mount or the optic mount? I noted that the side mount (screwed onto the receiver) is made of steel while the optic mount appears to be a softer aluminum alloy. How much did you have to file? I'm thinking Dremel tool.....

A few weeks ago I installed the CSA-brand side rail and CSA-brand short optic mount.

Are you placing the mount about halfway down the rail before engaging the two pieces and starting to slide the rest of the way? That is, you should first position the mount about halfway down the rail, but above it, wihout actually engaging the two parts. Then lower the mount against the rail (engage the parts) and then slide the mount toward the muzzle-end of the rifle.

If you try to slide the mount onto the rail by feeding the very front of the mount to the very back of the rail, the mount will not install properly.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. I am installing as you described - about halfway back and trying to move it forward. I can see logically how it is supposed to slide on but one of the pieces is the wrong size. Unfortunately I think I'm going to have dremel/file the optic mount to fit.

Is the mount the CSA 59RIN "short optic mount"?

Is the rail the CSA 59R "Receiver side rail"?

If those are indeed the parts, there should be no modifictaion to either part necessary.

So I dremeled and filed and tapped away at it. It seems to slide most of the way on and when I closed the latch there was lots of resistance indicating it was firmly locked. I've attached the picture below. The mount covers all but about 3/4 inch of the side mount. The picatinny rail on top does not extend beyond the rear of the body cover.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. The proof in the pudding will be when I order the Aimpoint for it next week.
