PROBLEM Re sizing LC brass

HELP. I am trying to re size{for the first time} some Lake City 7.62 once fired military brass. I have never had issues with any of my other loads, but this one is killing me. No matter how much lube , type of lube, amount of pressure I use I can not in any way full length size this brass. After multiple attempts the closest I can get it is to about 1/4 " above the case rim. I am lifting the bench off the ground and am very close to getting a case stuck! Can somebody help explain just what the hell is going on with this brass???? :confused: Some times learning something the first time is great or easy, this is just a ##### !
 
what types of lube & dies are you using? Using dillon full length resizing die, along with dillon spray lube, no issues what so ever (yet, knock on wood)
 
Brass may have been fired in a machine gun. it will need a lot of sizing.

Don't risk getting a case stuck. have you tried another type of case to make sure the die/lube is ok?

You might have to give up on the cases. A stuck case is no fun.
 
Probably MG fired. You will need lots of sizing and then trimming. Probably better off chucking it all away.
 
You guys give up way too easily. Anneal it. Screw the die out 1/4", size it, and then screw the die in a quarter turn at a time as you raise and lower the lever. It will size down that way in increments. Trim to size.

I have tried, One-shot, Lymans, cabelas, home made, all with the same results. And I have never had brass show so much resizing marks as these things, so I am begining to believe that they were machine gun fired. Now, if I anneal the neck area of the brass how exactly does that help me with the lower portion where I presume it's too tight ?? And thanks for all the comments, I love to learn !
 
I admire your persistence. :D I don't think I'd bother do all that work even if it was LC "Match" brass. There are other, better brands of brass available. Lapua for example, although it's not cheap, it's worth the investment and it'll save you a lot of time and effort.
 
I have sized large quantities of this brass. I use RCBS case lube and a lube pad and have never had a problem. I've used RCBS case lube for 40 years and the only stuck cases were from my own stupidity and/or not using the lube. RCBS lube is the slipperiest sh!t I've used, tried several others but the RCBS is the best without a doubt.
I really like LC brass it is very consistant and usually free, and none of the hundreds I've done were crimped primers either.
 
I have a LEE FL resizer die that has a LC brass case stuck in it. I have tried every removal method and it wont budge at all. It was lubed with a generous amount of Lee resizing paste lube.

The entire rim is now missing (torn off) and when I drilled and tapped the base all the threading ripped out.

I switched from Lee to RCBS after some unrelated warranty issues with Lee and am now very careful and gentle when resizing LC brass. I was pretty sure it's not machinegun fired since it's collected from a civilian range but after finding some disintegrating belt links one day I am now not so sure.
 
I would suggest trying again with synthetic motor oil as lube such as Amsoil or Mobil 1 10w30 etc. A thin wipe will do. Also Imperial Sizing Die wax from Redding is another must have on any bench. I find a lot of the spray lubes do not work that well for my rifle reloading.
 
I will try some of the suggested lubes, but in all fairness, it's like I am sizing with a wrong size die, yet its right. Again, primers were punched out before I bought the brass, so thats not a concern. If you could see the sizing marks on the case you would get a better idea of how much this die is trying to do. Frustrating to say the least !! Also, the seller asked me if the brass fit into my case gauge. One I don't have a case gauge and even if I did, they measure length for headspace they are not to measure case width, which is where I am having the issue.

I converted a bunch of Mil-Surplus LC X51 brass to 300 Sav. for my Sav. 99 rifle to shoot cast bullet loads in. Not sure if it will help but being that I didn't have a 308 die I used a RCBS 30-06 FL die to resize the base first which is the thickest and the hardest part to resize.

I lube the cases with the Lee case lube and run them through the die wet and they resized very easily. Next I ran the entire case into my 300 Sav. FL resizing die wet and it reformed with no issues,trimmed to length and was ready to load.

How about a pic of the LC brass, sized as much as you could, and some measurements of the brass, before sizing, and after the sizing attempt? Have you used the sizing die on other 308 brass? If so, some measurements of that non-LC sized brass would be helpful as well.

There is some very elementary problem behind all of this.

I agree with Andy, something is amiss, like I said done hundreds without a hitch. You're not by any chance using a SB die are you?
I've done a lot more difficult and weird things with my presses and dies, like swaging belts and didn't have as much trouble as you seem to be experiencing.
What make of equipment are you using, press and dies?
 
Lc brass

All my equipment is Lee. The dies are brand new, so I am sure they are ok, maybe that's the issue. And I agree something is real stupid here, but I have never run into it. I have never seen so much work marks on my resized brass, ever. I will try to take some pics and measurements. Again, thanks for the help.
