Problem w/ Mueller APV and Ruger 77/22

Was out at the range today trying to sight in my 77/22 with the APV I got off White Falls. Problem is, even with the scope cranked down as far as it'll go, I'm still a good inch low at 25 yards, two or three inches at 50 yards, and a good 6 inches low at 100.

My buddy and I fiddled around with it, even took the scope off and took the rings off to make sure they were on right. I even got the rangemaster to take a look and he had no idea why it would be screwy, figured it was probably the scope since it should be right in the middle of it's adjustment range at 25-50 yards.

Any ideas on what's going on here? Ruger 77/22 with stock rings that come with the gun. Are the rings supposed to be different heights or anything? Mine appear to be identical.

If the 22/77 is the same as the m77's the rings should be different. Just place a straight edge over the dovetail mounts and you will see if they are. I had the same problem of ring alignment with a m77 .308. I don't know if it was the rings or the dovetails.The problem was solved when i installed a ruger to weaver conversion base and used zee rigs with the polymer inserts. The gun shoots awesome now. These parts are made by Burris and should be easy to get through any of the major retaileres or just put a WTB on the EE and someone is sure to help you out.

Thanks for the response! I've examined the rings, doesn't look to me like there's any difference. The manual also doesn't mention any specific order to putting the rings on, so that sort of supports it.

I'll look at the Burris pieces, it'd be nice to get the gun functioning as it should be... It's kinda fun to "guess" them in at 200 yards, but it would be sweet to actually hit where the crosshairs are.

I would suggest trying a different scope, with the same rings in the same place. It might be that you have a barrel that points a few degrees down. I wouldn't buy anything until you know what to blame. If it's not the scope, and if the gun is new, then try to get it fixed under warranty.

Most guns this would be an easy fix if the gun isn't under warranty and the rings and barrel don't line up - you would just shim under the bases. With a Ruger, you've probably got to spend some money.

i would try a different scope .does your scope have 1/8 clicks .or the 1/4 inch clicks .as i tried my nikon 6to 20 power scope on mine .it has 1/8 .clicks in it.not enough for a 100 yards.for the 22 rimfire anyway..put my other scope on it .works like a charm now..
