Problem with 858....

Quite frequently (probably one in three, one in four times) my CZ fails to fire last cartridge in the magazine (happens with all the mags, CZ is always well lubricated). I suspect bolt carrier drags a little on magazine followers and the cartridge doesn't chamber properly. As my CZ has at least 1000 rounds through her, I don't think I can hope the problem will 'iron itself' in time. Any ideas how to go about fixing it will be greatly appreciated.

You could see if you can find someone with the same gun, and swap out the bolt carrier, or other parts to see which part is at fault.

Possibly compare mags for strange wear which may not appear on someone elses mags.

I am sure someone will be along with more knowledge than I. I cab't take a look as I sold mine awhile ago.

Good luck

does it chamber the last round? is it a dead trigger?(gremlin?) more info please!

It chambers the round, the gun clicks but does not fire. I don't think it's the gremlin, as with the gremlin you have no click, and it can happen at any time, not at the last round in the magazine only.

What ammo are you using? The striker spring and mass are more than generous enough to fire mil berdan primers. Compare primer strikes of unfired rds. to ones that did fire. If there is no difference than it is probably ammo related. Also if your very careful, you can wait until it does it at the range and keeping the rifle pointed in a safe direction remove the mag, flip it over and check to see if the locking lugs are fully engaged. Do not go swapping bolt parts around unless you can confirm critical tolerances are maintained to prevent catstrophic failures

well i have no clue is it under warranty? i can think of no reason why the last round in the mag consistently won't fire. is the sear and trigger pin retaining bar properly seated?

I have used at least 3 kinds of commercial ammo as well as some surplus.
I doubt very much it's under warranty, I got it second hand.
Thanks very much for all the suggestions. I will try to swap bolt carrier at the range and see what happens. I will keep you updated.

(gremlin?)

I am familiar with the dreaded "Gremlin" of the 858, and this does not sound like it, but seriously, what do you expect with these POS rifles anyway, there complete s**t.;)

There is a re-occurring issue with these rifles, an issue that is so bad that they have a scary name for it, a scary name that when mentioned, every person who owns one (and most who don't) know exactly what the other is talking about, because they have either seen it or experienced it. Why would anyone buy one of these rifles with a rep like that anyway???

IMO when you start making up scary names for the brutal, repetitive, malfunctions that EVERY CZ-858 I have ever seen experiences, it's beyond sad. It's pathetic:rolleyes:

And what might that be?? I've put over a thousand rounds through my 858 and have yet to experience a malfunction.

The only "issue" I have with mine is that I've shot the front sight drum a little loose so I had to break out the Blue loctite.

I too have to question the pos comment above. I know of four rifles that have fired in excess of 15000 rounds without ever seeing the gremlin or any other issue. They get hot they get dirty but they shoot and shoot
