Problem with a #4 ***photos added***

First thing - detail strip that rifle and clean it! How can you expect it to work as advertised when it's so clogged up?

If it's still messed up, suspect the safety. If that doesn;t fix it, it's a sear engagement issue and you should see a smith.

Good news is I doubt that rust is the problem.
I'd take the whole trigger assembly, and bolt out, and drop them in a oil change pan full of Hoppes#9. (outside). But take it apart inside over an area that you can easly see dropped parts.

I suspect something simple...usally this is the case.
At least it looks all there...let us know what you find out.

Wouldn't be the first time someone found a real jem of a Rifle under all the gunk.
These sort of finds are what keep the MilSurp addiction going.

Just got back from the range. The rifle shots great now, no malfunction's and the best group was about 1.5" -4 shots- with a 5th taking it out to about 3".

Thanks for all the suggestions folks, it seems that a good clean was what it needed!
:D :D :D

Possibly your safety is assembled with the "ddodad" on the wrong spline? Sorry for the high tech terminology here, but bear with me...

When the safety catch lever is threaded onto the splines of the inner part of the safety, it will fit in (I think) five different ways. Two of them obviously won't allow the safety to be inserted back into the receiver, one spline is the "right" one, but sometimes you can reassemble the rifle with the safety on one of the two adjacent threads to the "right" one, and it will "almost" work... but drag on various other parts.

Get your rifle to an Enfield experienced smith or gunnut to have a look.

All this reminds me of an issue I'm having- I have a no 4 rifle on which when the safety is on, and you pull the trigger, the cocking piece moves just enough so that it has to be recocked to fire when the safety is pushed to off. My other no 4's don't have this issue. Is something worn?, or could it be that spline timing issue?

This was looked at by a gunsmith today. He swapped a different bolt into the gun and problem went away. Safety is working correctly and timed, so...I need a different cocking piece, even though this one looks perfect.
