Hey guys,

I was out last Friday relaxing at the range. I put close to two hundred rounds through the upper and then the gun wouldn't fire. I tried cycling the bolt but noticed that the bolt wouldn't go into battery. I pulled the charging handle again and it still wouldn't go into battery. So I decided to take the bolt out.

Upon opening, my bolt wasn't looking good. The chiappa bolt spring rod snapped where it connected to the bolt block causing the spring to come loose. This is what it looked like:

I stole this pic from Olympic Arms forum as I didn't have a camera.

Have any of you had this problem?

Through my reseaching of m4 conversion kits I've read a post on another forum about this happening in the Chiappa M4 conversion upper's. Could be the same one you got the pic from. Wish I could be of more help but hopefully you still have warranty. Good luck!

From doing a bit more research on the net it seems that this is not that rare of a breakage. I also sent an email to Chiappa just to let them know of my problem. I hope they're working on a better guide rod.

Fortunately, it's still under warranty and I sent it back to Wolverines the day it happened. Unfortunately, it'll be stuck in limbo with Canada post if it doesn't get there by Wednesday.

Thanks for the link ajayofCanada. I'll have to look into that.

Well, I got a response from Chiappa and they do have an upgraded guide rod. Thank goodness. They'll replace it for free if I send the bolt back. Too bad I didn't wait for their response as I've already sent it back to Wolverine for warranty. Hopefully Wolverines will give me the newer rod.
