Problem with Colt woodsman

My hard gun will not cycle the hammer/trigger.
If I load it, and let the slide go back with the slide release it'll fire fine, it will eject the casing and load a new round but will not fire the next round.

If I pull the slide back and let it slide back with the slide release it'll fire again.

What could be the cause???

Make sure the mag is fully seated and locked in place. My M-93 gave me this kind of grief once. Started behaving once I realized I wasn't seating the mag fully.
 
Cause? Sounds like the hammer is following the slide down under recoil impulse, but not when hand-cocked.

I had one, Second Model with the 1911-style mag release, for several years. If I remember correctly, it would something like that if I reassembled it improperly following a detail-strip involving removal of the slide. Wouldn't #### every time I cycled it by hand. However, I only ever experienced its failures to #### with no ammunition in the mag or chamber, so I'm not certain if it would have not fired at all, or gone full-auto, if loaded in that conditions.

As dumb as it sounds, I think the problem was caused by putting the hammer strut in upside-down. Something equally simple, anyway.

Have you taken it apart since you've owned it? And, if not, had it behaved properly before now?
 
It's reloading a fresh cartridge, but when there is no trigger pull once it's loaded.
I haven't taken it apart, and I don't know if it has worked properly before, and I bought it from my uncle.

I will need to take a part and clean, inspect.

Have you confirmed that it is not a mag seating issue? I got this same behavior when not seating the mag. Shucked every second round, until I I figured out that the the mag was not seated!

After your first shoot, don't plull the trigger again , pull back the slide a bit and you will be able to tell if the hammer is cocked or not by the effort to pull the slide back , if is cocked, then pull the trigger and repeat the above.
if the hammer is cocked, you have may have a trigger disconnecter problem.
If the hammer is not cocked, slide is likly not coming back far enought
to fully #### the hammer, crap in the main springs, clean everything good.
These are not that hard to take apart, better than Rugers ( I just had to say it)
Also try some different ammo, some hi-speed if you are using standard.
If a real early model, don't use very much hi-speed as they are not made th
handle it, later ones are O.K.
Hope this gives you some ideas

I have tried different ammo, CCI, Fed, American, Winchester.
Mine is newer and uses HI-speed loads. I will check it On Wednesday
I will clean the gun fully before hand. Thank for the info.
 
I have cleaned the gun and it think that's all it was or something wasn't in place, Before I cleaned it I could pull the slide back by hand and it would not #### the trigger. Not it #### and fires every time. Thanks for all your help.
