Hi guys:

I have an older Manufrance shotgun that holds 2 in the mag, 1 in the chamber.

It functions properly except:
If I shoot it with none left in the mag, the follower jams on the retainer at the back end of the tube. It's obvious to me how to make a slightly differently shaped follower that won't jam, but I need to get it apart first.
The follower retainer is spot welded on and getting that end apart might get ugly.

Here is a picture of the FRONT end of the mag tube with the plug purposely held in a bit against the base of the split ring.

Any ideas on how that split ring was put in?
And how to get it out?
If I get it out clean(and destroyed) I can easily Loctite a new plug in.

Rip that split ring out with a pair of needle nose pliers. Then just forget about it. Just press the spring down with the nut and screw it on. That split ring is totally unncessary

Usually this type of retainer has two holes to use snap ring pliers. If you don't want to cause any damage you could drill a hole on either side of the slit.

Although I liked what supernova said the best(probably because it was the most complicated), I tried the expedient method offered by Onagoth and it worked just fine.

Thanks for the link dinsdale, looks like this is a common problem.

I see y'alls* point about the non-value of the split ring but I store the gun with the barrel off and the nut gets taken off a lot.
If it bugs me without, I'll glue in a plug I can get out easily.

if you are going to leave it without the spring retainer, make sure that you mention it is not in there if you ever get the gun worked on by someone other than yourself. its not much fun getting hit in the head by a flying barrel nut because someone left the spring retainer out and failed to mention it.
