Problem with my M&P9

And before I've even shot it! I was showing it to my brother, and to show him how it worked I dropped an empty casing into the chamber, as I had no snap caps available, and released the slide. It didn't close all the way and now the slide is jammed shut (or partially) and I can't get it open, here is a pic:

Set the edge of the slide against the edge of your workbench and push hard. Smack it with you palm if you have to. You won't hurt it.

Dropping the slide on a round in the chamber can lead to screwing up your extractor or even breaking it.
 
Will never do so again, and I won't be attempting your solution tonight - people are sleeping in the house. I'll try it in the morning when everyone is out.
 
That casing had been re-sized, right??? If not, that's not good at all because the chamber size of the gun it was fired in could be significantly larger than the chamber in the Smith.
 
A short explanation in case it isn't making entire sense - once shot, any cartridge is a little bit larger than it was before, because of the amount of force involved in firing. It will extract, but since each guns chamber is a little different, it will jam when inserted back into a chamber.

What reloaders do is to resize their shot cases (basically squishing them back to size) so that they will chamber when used again.
 
Honestly, I'd say no, my first handgun, don't even have an ATT yet, I made a stupid mistake I guess figuring I could show how it works by using a random 9mm empty casing and dropping it in. The casings out, was actually rather easy, and it seems to be fine. I've also learned not to drop the slide on a chambered round and not to supplement snap caps with empty cases.


EDIT: I knew the casing was lager post firing (I got some basic instruction on reloading from a friend and I'm looking into picking up a press for myself), I just figured the empty casing would be fine, didn't really think that one through.

Hehe I know exactly where you're coming from, I picked up my 9mm M&P earlier this week and have been fondling it non-stop since. I brought the manual onto the subway to read while going to school and got some funny looks. :D
