Problem with my Norinco 1911A1 clone?

Do you have a small piece of plastic/rubber (Shok Buff) installed between the recoil spring and the recoil spring guide.

Spring weight could cause your problem the following is a quote from 1911tuner, he hangs around most of the 1911 forums, and pretty much knows what he is talking about

Heavy recoil springs mean slower rearward travel but faster forward travel. The total cycle time changes very little, if at all. All the heavy spring does is alter the balance. Faster forward means that the magazine has to be in top form to keep up, especially on that critical last round...AND...slidelock. I've seen pistols fail to lock on empty nearly every time with an 18 pound spring, then turn around and function perfectly every time when the spring rate drops to 16 pounds.

What did gunnar say? I am sure he wouldnt send it back faulty. Must be your mags my man. Did you send gunar the mags to or just the pistol?

Gun and mag. It came with two. The other Noriinco mag doesn't work. The Wilson Combat ones I got don't work either. Just the one mag that Gunnar worked on with the gun.

No buffer installed. I guess I need to experiement with the original spring to see if it makes a difference.

so slide notch worn or slide stop worn?

The slide notch and stop are sharp. I assume you are asking me this right? After all of Rugerman's posts, it's hard to tell.

I'm still betting mags but it could be that the Armacoat has narrowed the slide stop notch and at the same time lengthened the slide stop (a thousandth here and a thousandth there, pretty soon you're talking FUBAR). I'm thinking with the Norc slide being tool steel, you're not going to see wear in the notch, my Compact is over 6,000 rounds and isn't even wearing the finish in the notch - (it's not a Para after all :nest: )

Hah, Para Bashing in a Norinco thread, thats a first.......:dancingbanana:

Para bashing? I'm all over that.... :p

That could be a factor. The armacoat (however thin I applied it) does add to surface dimensions. For instance, the the rif=ght side of the slide stop must be built up slightly. Couple that with e the left side of the slide being at least a little built, and the possibility of the notch affected by the coating, could all factor in .

I'll have to grab a stone and work things out (carefully).

I switched back to the original recoil spring, but that didn't help. So I carefully examined the slide stop and slide notch again. They seem perfect. Doesn't look like very much ArmaCoat on the stops catch at all.

I'm starting to think I should look into trying stronger mag springs or better mags in general, as some here have recommended.

I am a cheapskate. Mag prices seem pretty high to me. Can anyone recommend a supporting seller with really good prices? (or should that be a new post?)

Armco should have some decent mags in stock, while you're talking to him ask him about the mag he modified for you.

He didn't modify any mag for me. I have never dealt with Armco. Maybe you're thinking of Rugerman's posts in this thread.

Freedom Vent. is another one, when I got my Spartan I got extra mags at the same time, they were $15 each.

Thanks.

If those are the mags that ship with the Spartan, they're a good deal at that price, they have a more robust follower design, which could completely cure your problem.

Thanks also.

One other suggestion: I had a new nork w/ similar problem - there was a burr on the plunger assembly. Remove assemble and cycle. If slide stop works, concetrate in this area.
