my problem is that my 777 pellets don't seem to fit in my breech plug properly. first- they don't fit in the recess in the breech plug, second- because they don't fit, they leave a half inch gap between the end of the flash hole and the pellet. is this normal, the breech plug was removed to unload the gun, and the pellet was stuck in the end of the plug. i removed it in pieces and cleaned the plug with a wire brush, then tried to fit new pellet-no go. what's up. also see thread in muzzleloader forum, (put here due to probability of more info) thanks

Are you putting the pellet in from the muzzle or the breech end? From you description, I'm not sure? If your driving it down the muzzle with the rod, wont it sit right down to the base plug? What kind of rifle are you using?

normally down from the muzzle, but once apart i tried to see if it does fit, it doesn't. it sit against the breech plug, but that leaves the recess open behind it. the gun is a traditions e-bolt.

OK, if your concern is that they don't fit from the breach opening, dont worrry, they aren't supposed to. The only way you load your smoke pole is down the muzzle. The compression of the rod will seat them right back. If you try to do it from the breach, you will have a) the gap you notice, and b) very inconsistant compression if any at all on the pellets. This will cause a) erratic ignition (hang fires ect.) and b) crappy accuracy.

Mark the ram rod with tape or paint after you have pushed the sabot and pellets down the barrel tight against the breech plug. This way you will know if each load is seated properly. Evey time you switch loading components the ram rod mark will change. I use a Remington and they go down with no problem but my bro uses a Traditions and it needs a lot more down pressure when it gets near the breech plug. The ram rod wants to stop about one inch from breech.

not sure if I described what i meant, i did load the pellets from the muzzle, and i use quite a bit of pressure to seat the bullet and powder. When i removed the breech pleg, the pellet were stuck about 1/16 inch from the end of the plug, and it was ####-eyed a little. this left the whole "thunderdome" empty(minus the 1/16inch). I'm not very knowledgeable with this, but i dont believe the gap full of air between the flashhole/breechplug and the powder is a good thing. please let me know opinions and if im right. thanks

Muzzle loading pellets

Hi Bruno, With the gun clean insert the powder pellets and bullet and with moderate pressure on the rod they should touch the breach plug. As mentioned above mark the ram rod at the muzzle this is your proper loading depth. Do not use excessive force when seating powder and bullet you can break the powder pellets and cause inconsistent ignition which will affect accuracy. If you have trouble loading your next loads try cleaning between shots, some in-line's when loaded with max powder loads build up residue quickly. Hope this helps

My initial opinion would be that the gap is not so good.
How is ignition and accuracy with the current set-up?
How close is the pellet to fitting into the breachplug?
Would it be possible to rebore the breachplug?
Where are you?

My bro shoots a Traditions and when you load it the rod goes down easy but stops about 1/2 in from bottom and at this point you have to push real hard after the first shot, at times you would swear you are crushing the pellets. He asked manuf, and they stated this was normal with that gun????? Is it possible you have a wrong breech plug for different types of ignition ( usually you just change the nipple)? Is the gun new and have you checked with someone else that shots the same ML if they have the same problem???

the gun is new, haven't had a chance to try powdr yet in this gun, but will be comparing soon. shot newer version of my gun with powder, able to hit clays(not thrown) at 75 yards so im gonna try same with my gun

Bruno, is it possible for you to get a different breech plug? Sounds like the one you have was not meant for pellets.Everything I have read indicates an air gap can cause excess pressures.

it says it was designed to shoot both, but there is definitly an air gap with pellets. I'm going to use powder from now on anyway, but thanks for the replies
