I bought a silver Weaver Grand Slam 4.5x14 from another member awhile ago,
When I have it set on 4.5 power its perfect, as I turn the power up its like
it closes in and starts going black until its less than half the size circle your looking
through at 14 power
thanks for any suggestions

Some scopes as the magnification goes up the eye relief distance gets shorter , your still seeing an image as your eye is centred on the scope but you may need to move your eye closer

Try that and let us know

Ya that's the way my scope seems to work, not very nice when I had a bull moose in scope at 350yards and
I'm bobbing my head back and forth trying to get it in sight. Now I just leave it at 4.5 power

originally I had a 3x9 Bushnell elite 3200 but was seeing moose at 400 plus yards and
wanted something with a little higher power. I read different reviews about the weaver
grand slam and figured that was the scope for me. Now I'm gonna look for another
Bushnell I guess

That is exactly why I only purchase variable scopes with very close to constant eye relief.
