Problem with Tapco 20rnd mag - Bolt no longer locking back

Just tried out some new Tapco 20rnd mags. Fit is ok, but any difficulty is likely due to the half a century old wood in the stock warping over time.

Only problem I'm having now is the bolt does not lock back which makes removing and installing a mag damn near impossible.

Where should I begin to look first to identify the problem?

I noticed this problem recently, after swapping from my original birch stock to a laminate. I have a feeling the wood fit is just slightly tighter and the mag well in the stock needs to be relieved slightly, even though the mag seats properly. Possibly the tight fit may just be compressing the polymer enough to cause the follower to hang up that little millimeter or two to not fully engage the bolt hold.

Tapco does specify wood stocks usually need some massaging.

Yes factory magazine well must be opened up a bit for the Tapco magazine to fit.

Get the wood files out and have fun.

Mine had burrs inside the mag which were hanging up the follower, particularly with the snug wood fit.

Had to file inside the mag, and the wood.

Also had trouble with my first round chambering. They were pinned a little too tight.

Took them apart and took about 1/4" off the pin.

Work great now...

Took some work though.

Got it sorted out. HiCal were quite helpful as well so aces to them.

i have the same problem but to me it looks like a bad casting of the plastic mag is stopping the follower (?) from coming all the way up

does how does one get the follower out to sand down the rough edges internally?

ATC, if you look at the inside of your mag, you'll probably see a little point near the front where there's a rough "burr" and that's what's preventing the follower from comming up far enough. Just take the mag, grab it by hand, and lightly file down the two burrs on the inside of the mag till it pops up all the way. I just did the rest of mine today and the mags work like a charm now.
