I have two new Vaqueros in 45 Colt. Every once and a while I have trouble cocking these single actions. What I found is the transfer bar gets stuck under the firing pin. To avoid this you have to aggressively pull back on the hammer. Would a gunsmith be able to ramp the tranfer bar to glide over the firing pin more easily??

I replaced the base pin on mine with a brownells oversize, and lapped it in . It is rock solid and hammer cocks nicely. I do know what you mean , as mine was having that problem prior to this mod, due to cylinder slop maybe.

If your cylinder base pin isn't fully seated, I have seen failures like that. It may be working its way out under recoil. I have an aftermarket base pin with setscrew and once the setscrew is snugged up, nothing moves.

Coyote , thanks, this is exactly what the problem was, Gitz

You can also have an alteration done so you can turn the cylinder in either direction when the loading gate is open...
