My Norinco AR has some issues loading full mags when the bolt is forward, this happens with the factory mags and the new LAR mags. It seams that the full mag does not have enough room pressing up on the foreward bolt to reliably engage the magazine catch. Is this I common issue, does anyone have any suggestions? I have considered filing the magazine catch so it engages easier.

Is your mag catch too tight? It's easily adjusted.

Lots of mags are pinned/blocked too tightly at 5 rounds, and give this problem. The best ones will hold 5, but not quite 6.

its a mag thing. some mags hold 5 rounds tight. the best are the ones that hold 5.5 rounds

I wouldnt file the mag catch

Trim the follower legs aprox. 3mm and the problem goes away.

That sounds like a really good idea, I will try it out.
I have the newer LAR mags with the orange followers. The last round on all of my mags is very tight to load, trimming the follower legs should holo with this.

Don't take the whole 3mm off at once. As I said, it's an approximate amount and your mags/followers may need less removed to get the 10.5 rounds in.

Go too far, and you end up with 11, and that's to be avoided.

Yes, I ended up taking 1.75mm off the follower legs and now they load very nicely. I probably could of gone 2mm/2.5mm but the last thing I need is some juiced up RCMP giving me a hard time because of the whole AR/10 round pistol mag thing and them jamming an 11th round in there and then locking me up longer then a rapest.

Nice job. I remember where I got the 3mm number from. That's how much to remove when you're using Magpul ranger plates. They have an extra piece of plastic that goes in the mag body that the floor plate latches onto.
