Problems w/ Ruger P89?????

I have a line on a rather nice-looking Ruger P89, but I can't find out much info on them. FWIW, I've noticed a couple in the EE as well.

How well are these guns built? Any known problems?

I haven't had a chance to hold a P89 either. The grip looks relatively ergonomic, but I was hoping someone could let me know if it's a good gun for a guy with average size mitts.

I don't think Ruger has ever made a "horrible" pistol. I quite liked the 345 I had. They are built like tanks and pretty well never break.

That being said, I'm unaware of a military branch or police department anywhere that uses them.
 
I owned a KP89D for years. My first 'new' pistol, and I loved it.

The stock grip panels suck donkey balls, but a set of Hogue wraparounds make it one of the most comfortable pistols ever. I have average sized hands, and it fit me like a glove.

I'm also a lefty, so the true ambi controls were a plus.

You will find many Ruger haters, but I've owned the P89 and P944 and had zero problems with either one. Nice affordable guns, IMHO.

No FTF, no FTE, no issues whatsover. Granted, that was only about 1000 rounds that I put down the pipe, but it was solid and reliable for me.

Thanks for the feedback, brothers. Does anybody else have anything to offer? Any more opinions on the size of the grip?

I played with one, never owned one. The one I looked over had a horrible trigger....both DA and SA. Grip is blocky, but I own a S&W 645 and a MkII 22/45, so it didn't offend me in the least :)
It was heavy, and felt like a solid gun. If you can get it for $400 or less, it might be worth trying out.
 
I had a P85 in 9mm; it was a great gun, very reliable (built like a tank, actually!), with decent ergonomics. On the down side, it was very bulky, and not very accurate....

That's kind of an oxymoron..... nice looking and P89 in the same sentence.

Built like tanks but uglier than Glocks, IMHO.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, though.... ;) :p

In my opinion the ruger p-series are very under rated....they arnt pretty, but i've found them to be very reliable.
 
tough pistol had a p91 (.40) and friend has a p89, only comment is i find the triger is a little spongee alot of distance before the contact point. usually they are a good price
