There was a series of bad batches of .300WSM from Win in terms of brass. There wasn't a recall because it wouldn't blow up your rifle but some guys I talked to reported 4 out of 5 shoulders splitting on first firing. This was for both factory ammo and bagged brass for reloading.
LeBarons had a bunch of fired cases with split shoulders they where showing customers and where warning people not to buy Winchester ammo in .300WSM until it was fixed. I've talked to at least 3-4 people who all ran into the same thing with the same ammo in different brands and types of rifles.
It all seems to split for me. New brass I anneal before I load it, seems to last a bit longer. I don't get many reloads from my .300 wsm brass. Never tried Lapua though.
Lapua doesn't make 300wsm brass but I only get 4 or 5 reloads out of federal brass...recently switched to win brass but haven't shot enough to see how it will hold up...no split casings yet on first firing.
Thanks for the info guys, and yes I found that Lapua isn't making 300 WSM. I found some Nosler Custom brass at Cabelas.
I will post the results when it arrives.
