I shoot an 9mm M&P and am using full metal jacket rounds (winchester 115gr FMJ) and was wondering what other alternitives there are out there. Is there problems using FMJ rounds? I was told I can get away without cleaning my pistol as often by using FMJs, Is this true?

I am a new gun owner and am really kind of in the dark about this, I am just using what the the guy at the store said would be best for target shooting for the money.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

With cast or jacketed bullets, I've generally found that powder fouling or routine are the chief reasons I clean.
With highspeed loads, cast bullets can leave lead fouling where the metal fouling from jackets would be very low.
If you use lead within the limits (typically you'd want velocity not to exceed 1000 or 1100 fps) it can be cheap and very accurate.

I shoot jacket hollow points thru my glock 17 9mm I ONLY clean it when it stops wokring right usually after several hundred rnds as the poweder does start to clog it up depending on what powder im useing

"...problems using FMJ..." Other than some indoor ranges not letting you shoot them and the high cost of jacketed ammo, they're fine. Target grade ammo they ain't though. They'll be just dandy for shooting because it's fun though.
Cleaning is about getting the powder residue and assorted gunk out of the pistol.
