So I just got back from the range where I tested out my new SAM Military 1911A1 that I bought from Wolverine a few weeks ago.
I bought the pistol because I liked the look and finish and had read some favourable reviews. It appeared to me to be as close to an original 1911 in look without all the fancy hammers, serrations and other stuff that many 1911s have nowadays. Nothing against them, I just wanted a simple, stock-looking 1911.
I was using 230 grain RN handloaded with 5.4 grains of 231 - a load I have been using reliably through thousands of rounds through my Glock and Norc. I put about 20 rounds through the SAM and the shells were consistently mangled, some beyond reuse as evidenced in the pics below. As well, the pistol was shooting a good 8 inches above point of aim at 25 metres.
My questions are as follows:
1.Has anyone experienced this with a SAM or other 1911s, and if they have, are there any simple remedies?
2. Should I be thinking about returning the pistol?
Thanks in advance for your help.
