I am having problems with reloading my Ruger no1 in 6mm. I picked up the gun at a gun show, The gun is in mint condition. But i am having problems with very flat primers. Load is my starting load in speer book of 42gr of IMR4831 with 100gr Grand slam, CCI 200 primer, coal:2.775+-.002 which is way off the lands. I have smoked the bullet and came to the same conclusion a couple of times.

I took the gun to the range and shot a couple of rounds, Very sharp recoil for a 6mm. and primers started to bulge out of the case. This is the same load i use in my M77V. With no problems, I also tried one in the M77V to maker sure, no sharp recoil, no flat primers.

I shot a factory 100gr Remington core-lock. got the same very sharp recoil, and flat bulging primers in the No1. But felt and look normal in the M77V.

Any ideas???

Check your velocities with a chronograph. Just because the load is ok in one rifle does not mean it will be ok in a second. The fact that factory loads are doing the same thing, however, point to an issue with this particular rifle's chamber/bore. How easily do the rounds chamber? Do you have to squeeze the lever up fairly stiffly? It should go easily. Also, measure unfired brass against fired brass. Maybe you have a headspace issue. Try these things and post again. - dan
