Hi guys, I am looking for MagWedge mod to my SKS and I have a couple of Qs to you:
1. Do you have any feeding issued with this mod? I've heard that this mod doesn't like soft points
2. Can you still use original mag/ tapco mag-just in case. This Q is about this mod versatility

Thanks

I had to create a feeding ramp and a left-gouge to let the ammo clear properly. Misfeeds I have are from not letting the first round slam into the chamber.

Edit: I forgot to mention that my rifle prefers 9 rounds loaded. 10 can give me trouble pending temperature

Here is what I had HiCal do for me as I'm still a newbie with my drilling/milling machine.

Rifle ain't pretty by any means but functions 100% and that is what matters.

I've got 3 SKS with the mag adapters. Combined over 20 000 rounds through them, with minimal feeding issues, usually caused by the magazine. However, all have been FMJ or hollowpoint.

I have the proper 7.62x39 xcr mags, no problems. Feeds every round every time, no 8-4 feed ramp milling or anything. Only thing is it doesn't like to be nancied in to battery, drop the carrier like it was made to and it feeds fine, ease it forward and it can bind on the breach face. I've seen people trying to use 5.56mm xcr mags, never works, there are ridges that catch the 7.62 round and kick it out as it leaves the mag, will FTF like mad.

Yup similar to what I did. Mine is as ugly as ;&/$. But it feeds better than before.

If you get the angle on the adaptor right you should not need any adjustments to the chamber, nor do I recommend it.

The same thing is true of soft point ammo.

The idea is to get the adaptor to allow the rounds to function exactly as the original mag feed system and send the rounds directly into the chamber without striking any edges first.

How difficult is the install for the mag wedge xcr adapter ?? Is there milling or machining necessary or is it plug and play for the most part ??
Not plug and plug play at all. Difficultly is relative, I build cars for fun, and deal with broken stuff 3 kilometres underground, comparatively this was fiddly but not difficult. If you get frustrated building an IKEA desk, or live in an apartment with one pair of pliers and a multi-driver in the drawer for tools, it's likely best to take it to someone.

Take your time, get the angle right, get the bolt-hold open jibby right, and they pop in and out, and feed fine without carving up the chamber with dremelled 8-4 ramp jobs or other poor ideas. I saw a hillbilly on YouTube who was using .556 mags, and carving up the gun to make it feed. Nightmareish.
