hi everyone,

I apologize if this thread is in the wrong place.

a few weeks back I got my r/pal and found a pistol I liked, but had to order it online from a shop in ontario, the other day they emailed me to let me know they are now processing the order. being that this is my first handgun purchase, I was hoping someone here could shed some light based on their experience as to how long it took from the start of process to shipping. someone from the shop told me it could be weeks or months, which is super vague lol

thanks,
Lee

When you can actually get the gun will depend on when the Transfer is approved. That is most likely why they said weeks-to-months. If you tell us which province you're in we can give a better timeline as to how long things have been taking.

In the before times transfers only took a few days for most provinces and stores had the manpower to ship stuff basically right away once approved, but right now stores are overwhelmed with the sheer volume of (particularly handgun) sales so actually getting the order put together is taking some stores a few days, and others even longer.

I'm not sure what "processing your order" means exactly, but I would guess that means they're putting the order together, boxing it, whatever, and then it'll sit on a shelf until the transfer is approved. If you tell us what store you bought it from people might be able to help explain that stores process if anyone is familiar with it.

In onterrible I hear it's gonna take you a year. You can try calling your provincial CFO and unsuccessfully attempting to get through in the hope they will approve faster. Google CFO Ontario and you'll find the number.

My first purchase has had the approved transfer for weeks and provided me with a tracking number but no one can seem to arrange pickup / drop off at Canada Post. It's no Amazon.

What store is this?

FOC. They've had the approved transfer since September 20th and they gave me a tracking number the same day. I've had the registration certificate for the last week. They just can't seem to drop it in the mail.
