What rules govern production mag pouches/holsters?

Yes... I can troll through the rule book, but - practically speaking - what do people use in production? I'd like to replace my crappy uncle mikes holster.

Hi,

If you're staying in Canada, any race holster will do.

Mag pouches are the same. I use my old Safarilands and played with Ghost mag pouches.

If you shoot in the States, race holsters are not allowed.

I'm running a Bladetech DOH for Production and I'm very happy with it. I haven't found a huge difference in draw time between it and a race holster.

cr speed and guga ribas for mag pouches or what Tritium mentioned. Belts CR speed or DAA from Josko. Holsters for production you can go from Bladetech,..Blackhawk,..Ghost,...Speedsec, CR speed,etc.etc..etc..
I use a Ghost holster for my tanfoglio's,...but would be comfortable with a Bladetech DOH. I use CR Speed belts and Guga ribas mag pouches.

Damn Mo, that was a much better respsone than mine!

Can't go wrong with any of the stuff Mo mentioned. I love the CR belt! Very sturdy with all pouches and holsters!

If I was going to upgrade pouches I'd probably go with the CR pouches. My wife has the 2 Alphas and likes them though.

Dmented- what gun are you running?

I believe the only restrictions are on where you wear them.

I have shot 5 qualifiers and I have seen everything from leather or nylon pouch holsters to full on race holsters.

Personally I use the same gear I use in IDPA - Bladetech holster and double mag pouch with two Ghost mag holders as well. Just picked up a CR Speed belt off the EE to keep it all where I want it.

So I am set for this year.

Being a cheap bastard I'm not really inclined to buy $600 worth of gear to shoot a qualifier. ;)

The idea of compatibility between IDPA/etc. sounds like a good idea...

Would a blade-tech DOH and ghost mag pouches along with a springfield XD and a double-belt be legal in IDPA/IPSC/etc.??

That would be good to go for IDPA.

No sweat with your stuff being legal for IPSC but you'd have to remove the DOH for IDPA, I think.

Where is your qualifier? Make sure you get on a squad with some good guys and chat folks up. Don't be afraid to ask the top guys what they use and why or how to shoot some stages and make sure you intro yourself. I've found that many new shooters are too shy at matches then don't come back because no one would talk to them.

I'm cheap too so make sure that you buy once and buy right! I once spent $2300 on a gun I couldn't get to run because I thought it looked cool!

not booked yet... debating whether I should shoot it with my current gear that I used for the BB course. I only have room for 4 mags though.

Also waiting on 2 new mags.

As others have mentioned the DOH back would have to be replaced with their standard back which is easy to do for IDPA. You can't use a double belt in IDPA either. Your belt has to go through all your belt loops. The Wilderness Belt works great in bot sports and you don't need a double belt for IPSC if you go with the Blade tech Holster and the Wilderness belt set-up.

Take Care

Not meaning to hijack, but I was told by a decent source that the competition mag pouches were a no no for IDPA as well, CR, Ghost etc....any truth to this?

Magazine carrier must:
A. Be designed for concealed carry and suitable for all day
continuous wear.
B. Be worn on a standard belt of no more than 1 ¾” width that
must pass through the belt loops on the shooter’s pants.
C. Hold the magazine with enough tension to allow it to be
turned upside down and retain a fully loaded magazine.
D. Cover 2” of the magazine as measured from the top of the
cartridge rim down the back flat of the magazine tube.
E. Cover the entire front face of the portion of the magazine
inside the carrier. The front face is defined as the side of the
tube away from the shooter’s body.
F. Hold the magazine within 10 degrees of vertical (80-100° to
the ground) position on the belt, no substantial forward or rear
cant.
G. Be worn in a belt location that will position the front edge of
the carrier behind the centerline of the body.

I can only assume that it is the A portion that would restrict some mag holders.
