Looking for some advice on setting up a G17 for production Optics for my better half without breaking the bank, seems to be endless options.
Hoping for some feedback.
Thx

G17 MOS with a Vortex Razor.

Seems to be the way to go on a budget.

The Razor is the high end of Vortex's lineup. If you are on a budget the Vortex Venom is the way to go. I don't personally own one but I shoot with a number of people that do and none report any issues...unlike the Leupold Deltapoint.

Can’t beat the vortex venom. And comes with best warranty in the industry. For practical shooting, I’d recommend getting a 6MOA. If you don’t have the MOS version for your Glock, you can look into getting a rear dovetail optic mount. The optic sits a little higher but after some training and dry firing, you’ll learn to not fish for the dot.

If you keep an eye in the EE, the Razor's do come up for sale now and again. Personally, I'd put up a bit more $$ and go with the Razor and not worry about being able to handle the bashing that the slide will give it. I have a couple of buddies that went through a Venom and a Viper twice and then switched to the razor and have not had any issues since. Trijicon RMR is a bit more than the Razor, but they are bomb proof. I'd rather pay a few bucks more up front and not worry about equipment failure, hence the old adage buy once, cry once.

I've had the Holosun 507c V1 milled onto a CZ P-10F for about 11k rounds now with no issues. Much, much more robust unit with much better battery life than the Vortex MRDS options.

Not a big fan of dovetail mounts, I tried a couple on my G17 and found they needed tightening all the time. Perhaps you could buy an MOS slide for it? Or get it milled for optics mount. I ended up buying a G17MOS and put the sights back on the G17.

I have a couple of Vortex Venom 3moa. I really don't like the 3moa dot in the venom, would strongly urge you to get a 6moa if buying a venom. They are built well and the warranty is awesome (never had to use warranty on any vortex yet).

FWIW, I have had numerous warranty claims on Vortex optics that have broken... While they are great to deal with and replaced the optics every time I got sick of paying for shipping every time to send it back to them. I avoid Vortex now but I think they have improved their products since I was using them. From my previous experience I would opt for a Holosun before another Vortex.

I have had great luck with FTP Alpha Optics from site sponsor FTP Shooting Sports. I used an FTP Alpha 2 on my PO CZ Shadow for 1.5 seasons and over 20k rounds without issue. Had another Alpha 2 on my Open gun for a season and only changed it because I wanted to upgrade to the Alpha 3 for the bigger window and an 8 MOA dot over the 6 I was running. I would seriously consider the Alpha 3, or for a more budget friendly choice there is a seller with a pair of the now discontinued Alpha 2's in the EE.

Can you share the issue with Deltapoint?

If i was going plastic gun id do CZ p10 with DPP or Holosun. My Dpp has been fine, firends DPP on a glock has been fine. Thousands of rounds no issues. There was a problem with some runs where the battery would shake loose to something, but resolved in new models or with a piece of foil in the battery hatch to help stop it bouncing.

Are any of the Provinces recognizing that mess they call PO Lite? Alberta does not.

I've had good results with DPP, I have 4 now and at one point had 6.
I've had two failures, one was 20k rounds of 9major on a open gun. The other was on a 12ga open shotgun for about 4k rounds, spent some time on a 3 gun rifle then starting giving me issues after 3k on a production optics pistol.

I have one on a production optics 320X5 that has over 10k rounds on it since the spring and no problems.

With the two failures that I've had, both gave me warnings(not responding or responding incorrectly to button pushes, etc) They didn't just turn off while shooting so neither have cost me a match or anything like that.
