I've got a probib frame I want to turn in, it was a cheap parts gun at the time. I heard that the barrel for it has to be turned in with it, but I can't find it. Any advice?

It doesn't _need_ to be turned in. I haven't had to turn in _any_ barrels when converting from prohib to restricted in spite of other people saying they had to [shrug] (They were super easy to export to Europe to get some money back too) Tell them you don't have it, parts gun. They might not even ask.

Also, why don't you throw it up on the EE for free/cheap + shipping? These being desperate times someone will probably want it and then you don't have to worry about how to turn it in or about increasing their "seized guns" statistic (yes, the gun you turn in will be recorded as a seized gun same as a confiscated from a criminal, go figure).

Can a prohib barrel be deactivated so it is not longer a prohibited device?
For instance, can a FN 1910 barrel have the chamber welded over and be deactivated, but still installable for esthetics in a Restricted 1910.
(Yeah for less then 30 days, better reinstall the real longer barrel in for a few minutes, then good to go for another 30 days)

You get my point.... plugged and welded 1910 barrel legal?

I have never asked that particular question, but I don't see why not. I expect that it would have to be deactivated to the same specs as if it were installed in a gun - a rod put in and welded in place. This question is better asked of the people who insist the lab forces them to surrender or destroy the original prohibited barrel - they probably have a requirements set for that destruction... One gunsmith insisted he even has to destroy a FN 1922 barrel which is not a prohibited device [eye roll].

If such a barrel is installed, perhaps it's even better to try and change the registration to a frame only (i.e. no barrel)? But I'm not lawyer :)

Okay, thanks for the advice. I do have the registration for it. I have a large old tool box with several drawers that I now put all my bits and pieces in, as I find them.

well I guess , but if you can take it out of the gun and put a nonwelded one , sure the hell not legal. 32 cal?
If you are talking 380, than yes , but you need a steel rod welded in. They change the regulations every once in a while, I have not done a 32 in yrs. the 1922 is a better one to do, don't look so silly.
A short barrel on the EE would not be a great idea.

Way I pictured what he was talking about is:

FN 1910 with a 380 pinocchio barrel registered R.

Extra non-barrel made out of a short barrel (welded solid). The question for the lab would be if they accept this as a barrel deactivation or if they insist on a cut through the chamber - this is how I heard the gunsmiths destroy prohib barrels when reclassifying.
