Whats the reason Lugers are Prohibited in Canada? Scaryness factor or Length factor. What would I need to do to buy one? I know you can buy a barrel from Dlask to make it longer, but how do you buy a gun to put the barrel on if its prohibited?

not all luger are prohibs- the artillery models are ok b/c of barrel length- ie the general luger has a 4 inch barrel, and therefore falls short, afaik- the only way for you to get one would be either get a long barrel arty model, or maybe BUILD one ( frame up) you probably aren't grandfathered for 12(6)- if you were, you could get one

Finnish and Swiss lugers have restricted length barrels. If you find a prohibited luger for the right price you may be able to convince the seller to have it sent to a gunsmith for rebarrelling. Then once completed the gun is re registered and transferred to you.

I believe you can get the seller to send it to the smith on consignment and then he can do the work on it and then transfer to your name.

I did this for a buyer awhile back. Once i was paid for, it was sent to them.

"...the reason Lugers are Prohibited..." Like t-star says, it's the barrel length of a standard Luger.
"...how do you buy a gun to put the barrel on if its prohibited?..." You can't, but Light Infantry has a plan. Mind you, you'd have to find the barrel and a smithy who has the right tools.

And having fitted new barrels to a few, I would rather rebarrel most any bolt action rifle instead. It is a pain of a job.
Last one I did, though, I recontoured a 6" barrel, and shortened it so that it was just over the legal minimum. It is not apparent that the pistol has been rebarreled, turned out well.
Tradeex has some restricted Swiss Lugers. Worth looking at these.

Would buying and then refitting the barrel cost as much as a Swiss Luger? $2300 on tradex. for a Swiss.
