Just looking to see if this is even possible. I love the look of the S&W Model 10 4" heavy barrel. Of course it is prohib. I see them come up for sale all the time in the 12(x) EE at what I think are great prices. Does anyone know if you can add to the barrel to make it restricted. I have searched Google but could not find anything. I have never seen a 5" in anything but the pencil barrel. Is there a way of adding a .25" extension to the barrel by a gunsmith and then re-registering it as restricted.
Just a shot in the dark but with 12(x) holders getting less and less I would like to save a few of these revolvers.
Cheers,

You could get the original barrel "sleeved" and then the end of the sleeve will stick out .25". I've seen one or two on the EE, I think for a .22 revolver. I'm not a fan of the look, and I believe it leaves the end of the sleeve succeptable to damage (not as protected as a barrel)

For the price of sleeving a barrel, you might be coming close to having a custom barrel made. A lot of PPC guns were made on Model 10 frames with custom bull barrels.

Contact Barry Jensen in Delta BC(Bits of Pieces) He does this type of work regularly. Be prepared for a bit of a wait. The reclassification is what takes all the time. He has done a couple for me in past and the work was great.

It's just a barrel.....if the desire is to save a plaine-jane S&W model 10, you can install a longer barrel but to what end? It's still a fixed sight gun, the new front sight would have to be modified to make the rear work. Plus what's the advantage?
Planning on shooting the Service class with your longer barrel against other, better, guns in the class?

Model 10's came in just about every barrel length. Find a five or a six incher.

By the time you pay to have it re barrelled, I think you will find that unless it is of some sentimental value, it just isn't worth it
