Prohib to Restricted-The Ultimate Bubba?

It doesn't have to be right, it doesn't have to be just, it is simply the law.

That's right. So we should all just sit back and swallow it and not say another word and never challenge it ever again. :p

I can't tell which one of us is being sarcastic. I hope it's both of us.

Another stupid law that makes no sense to anyone but an anti.

Pistols with short barrels are much more deadly than longer barrel pistols due to their increased muzzle velocity, accuracy, and magazine capacity.
Now that was definitely sarcasm:)

I kinda like the look of them with the barrel sticking out a little. I want a Glock 29 :D

Social engineering is working!:)

Don't get me wrong, I would prefer to own a G29 the way it was originally designed but it doesn't bother me enough that I wouldn't buy one if the right deal presented itself. I already own 3 Glocks and my 10mm conversion for the G21 is extended and hangs out a half inch and my other aftermarket stainless .45 barrel is extended and threaded and I have a flash hider that threads on. Ya, it looks rediculous with it on there but it doesn't bother me as long as it shoots well.
If I had one and the stupid laws changed I would definitely buy the short barrel to return it to it's natural state.

I work within the law and buy things that are as close to what I want as I'm allowed to have. I missed my chance to get in on the prohib list and really regret not buying the S&W pistol my friend tried to sell me years ago. If I had known it would become prohib and it would have been my ticket into the club I would have bought it. I get around the mag limit laws by owning 10 mags for each pistol:)

Let me make the rules and there would be no barrel length restrictions, no classifications, no mag limits. The only restriction would be deciding who was or was not allowed to own a firearm.

problem with most semi auto new barrels is that they drill out the old one and effectively reline it making the barrel very thin and silly looking where it sticks out. they look fine when its a full size barrel all the way out

I don't want to start a stampede to buy calipers, but I just measured my prohibited model 66, bought here, and it is 105.07 mm. I measured it about 10 times, slid the calipers back to zero each time, moved the cylinder... 105.07 mm. And that gets rounded up to 106. Registered: 102 mm.

Mis-measures are common.

I agree wholeheartedly that 12(6) needs to go! Why can't handguns be handguns? You get an R-PAL, you run to the store to buy your PPK, you go home grinning. You're more productive at work, pay more taxes and are happier, and probably even cost the health care system less money. Happiness does that for people.

It's clearly a matter of public health as well as being beneficial to the economy: repeal 12(6), and all the other goofy 12(X) sections.

I have no problem with the lengthening (and reclassification) of a prohib. I understand the issue collectors have with altering something. I like original too. If the barrel length part of classification was an attempt at whittling away the number of pistols available to the general public, this is way to get them back in the hands of ALL eligible, responsible Canadians. Take it any way you can get it.

Read the post. He was talking about a se-mi au-to-mat-ic.:D

Um... no I wasn't. At least not when I was mentioning my 66. It was later in a following paragraph that I mentioned the PPK and other guns which happened to be semis. But I can see why you might link the two. Or perhaps you assumed that the 66 was a semi since I said I was using it in IDPA? Yup, I'm one of "those" that likes to try the lesser traveled path.... :D

The extension modification allowed me to get a 4.2" S&W Model 66 to use for IDPA. Yeah, looking at it from the side the "Pinnochio told a lie" look to it isn't that pretty. But when I pull it from the holster and look along the sights I can't see that part.

"Looking at it", was the part that fooled me.

I could only assume that you were still talking about the gun in the previous sentence.

My mistake.

In total agreement on that. At least I can own a pistol that normally would be unavailable to me.A little extra barrel still looks much better than the ILS on any day .

silly question..from the momma.(S&W)is that prohib or just barely restricted..love that gun btw!

Little bit off topic, but what are the rules regarding passing down prohib firearms? My dad has his 12(6), and a few prohibs. When he passes away, am i allowed to inherit those firearms? Would i be given a 12(6)? Sorry its prob been covered but im curious. Thanks.

Call it in! Get it changed to Restricted!

Gunzik, I'm sure they will require you to have the length verified by a registered smith or dealer that is registered for doing such work. But if he confirms the barrel length then he can have your 66 moved from prohib to restricted..... You lucky devil you.... :D
